Telecolaboration Activities

The objective : to develop the intercultural communication and awareness for the purpose of FL learning among participants

Participants : college students of Indonesia, Vietnam, and Laos

The activities :

1. The participants introduce themselves via whatsapp group to know each other

2. They make an agreement to set up the time and choose the topics that they are going to discuss

3. After having an agreement, one person who is pointed as a coordinator group, put one topic to discuss on google doc. For example: A good teacher is someone who ………

4. Each participant has to give his opinion of the topic and give the reason so that all participants get the idea from his cultural perspective.

5. The result of the discussion is published on the blog by the coordinator so that it can be read by other people.

The technology use:

1. Whatsapp

Most people have this application in their smart phone. It is easy to download and use. We can chat to friends that only have smart phones supporting this application and to friends having their account on Whatsapp. We can just send 100 messages in a month to friends not having Whatsapp on their phone. We must have access to internet to send and receive messages for free and the messages are also not sent to the phone inbox.

2. Google docs

Documents on Google Docs are saved to Google’s servers. Therefore if the computer’s hard drive crashes, we won’t lose the document that you’ve been working on. Google Docs offers the feature of allowing people to view past edits. Documents can be shared, opened, and edited by multiple users at the same time. Google offers one of the best services for cloud computing document sharing.

3. Blog

It is easy to use and every one can create a blog. We can be updated at any time with corrections and the latest updates. It’s a two-way communication tool (for most blogs). Readers are able to add comments to individual posts (this is up to the blog host – comments can also be turned off or moderated). There’s no permanent deletion. All of the past content is still viewable (in case we missed it, or if we want to read it again).
